Cherry tomato packaging guide

Cherry and snacking tomatoes are packed by weight, usually 250 g, 1 pint (US), 450 g or 500 g. They are firmer than berries, so they suit clamshells, heat-seal punnets and flowpacks alike; the choice comes down to your packing line and how the pack is labelled.

One footprint, many depths

AVI's TBT 180 120 heat-seal punnets share a 184 × 117.5 mm footprint from 40 to 85 mm deep. One sealing tool on your line can pack 250 g snacking tomatoes and 500 g family packs: only the tray changes.

Labelling and shelf

A heat-sealed film carries the print, so the tray can stay clear and unprinted (easier to recycle). Clamshells need a label on the lid. Flowpacks print on the wrap.

Mixed colours and medleys

Medley packs sell on colour, so a low tray that shows the fruit in a single layer works better than a tall pack.
