What sizes do cherry tomato punnets come in?
Short answer
Cherry tomatoes are packed in 250 g, 1 pint, 11 oz, 450 g and 500 g packs. Three pack types
- Clamshells re-close after opening and need no sealing machine: 250 g and 1 pint are the usual sizes.
- Heat-seal punnets are sealed with a film lid on a tray sealer. They are lighter per gram of fruit, tamper-evident and print-friendly (the label goes on the film). The TBT 180 120 range shares one 184 × 117.5 mm footprint in 40 to 85 mm depths, so one sealing tool handles 250 g to 500 g.
- Flowpack trays go through a flow-wrap line and are wrapped in film, the lowest-material option for 500 g.
Matching the pack to the variety
Small cocktail and grape tomatoes pack densely, so a 250 g fill fits a shallow pack; vine and mixed-colour medleys need more height. Send AVI's team your variety and fill weight and they will match the depth.
