What's the difference between an open-top tray and a clamshell?

A clamshell has an attached, hinged lid formed with the base. An open-top tray has no attached lid and is selected for a separate closure process, such as heat-sealing, flow-wrapping or overwrapping, depending on the format.

How do I choose between heat-sealing and flow-wrapping?

Heat-sealing bonds compatible lidding film to the punnet's sealing rim. Flow-wrapping encloses the tray and its contents in film using a flow-wrapping machine. Choose the format around your existing equipment, produce, ventilation and presentation requirements. AVI's team can help assess the appropriate option.
