Blueberry and berry packaging guide

Blueberries and other berries are sold in small, clear packs, from the 125 g (4.4 oz) standard to 500 g family and 18 oz club packs. Berries are firm enough to stack deeper than strawberries, but they still need ventilation and gentle handling.

Sizes

  • 125 g / 4.4 oz: the standard retail blueberry pack, also used for raspberries and blackberries.
  • 200–250 g: larger everyday packs.
  • 500 g and 18 oz: family, value and club-store packs.
  • 1 pint: used in the US for mixed berries and larger fruit.

Clamshell or heat-seal

Clamshells dominate berries because packing is fast and the pack re-closes. Heat-seal punnets such as the A-30 range are lighter, ship more packs per carton and suit tamper-evident or modified-atmosphere lines.

Shipping space

Blueberry packs are small and light, so freight is mostly air. A pack that nests deeply, or a shape that fills the outer box without gaps, lowers the cost per kilo shipped; ask AVI's team about space-saving formats.
