Is PET packaging recyclable?

Short answer

Yes. PET (resin code 1) is one of the most widely recycled plastics: clear PET bottles, and increasingly trays and punnets, are collected and recycled into new PET, which is how rPET is made. Recycling depends on local collection, so clear, unprinted mono-material PET packs recycle best. AVI's punnets and trays are rPET, with 30–100% recycled content documented by EN 15343.

What makes a pack recyclable

  • One material: a mono-material PET pack, without other plastics laminated in, recycles cleanly.
  • Clear: clear PET has the highest value for recyclers; dark colours are harder to sort.
  • Removable labels: small, wash-off labels and films keep the PET clean.
  • A collection system: the pack has to reach a recycler where it is sold.

Closing the loop

rPET sheet is made from collected PET and formed into new packs, so the material keeps circulating. Documented recycled content (EN 15343) lets brands report and claim it.
