Choosing a pack
What is the best packaging for cherries?
Short answer
For retail, cherries go in vented clamshells or heat-seal punnets that protect the stems and let the fruit breathe. AVI's rPET options are the PNG 490 / 85 cherry clamshell (190 × 115 × 85 mm), the 450 g heat-seal punnets TBT 180 120 / 40 and TBT 180 120 / 50, and the tamper-evident TE 300 / 12oz for premium and food-service packs.

What cherries need
- Cold chain and air: cherries are packed cold and keep firm longer when the pack is vented or sealed with a film made for respiring fruit.
- Stem protection: green stems are a freshness signal on the shelf, so the pack should not crush them; a deeper pack such as the 85 mm PNG 490 / 85 leaves headroom.
- Visibility: clear rPET shows the colour, which sells cherries.
Export or local
For long sea freight, heat-seal punnets with a modified-atmosphere lidding film are common; for short supply chains a vented clamshell is quicker to pack. AVI's team can match the lidding film to the punnet.
Related questions
How heavy is a punnet of cherries?
Retail packs are commonly 250 to 500 g. AVI's heat-seal punnets are listed for 450 g; the PNG 490 / 85 clamshell takes larger fills.
Do cherries need a sealed pack?
Not always. A sealed punnet is tamper-evident and can carry a modified-atmosphere film; a clamshell is simpler to pack by hand.
