What thickness of PET sheet is used for thermoforming, and who makes it in India?

Short answer

Thermoforming PET sheet is specified in microns. AVI Global Plast extrudes it in India: APET from 200 to 1,200 microns (±5%), GAG PET from 150 to 700 microns, plus rPET with 30–100% recycled content. The right gauge depends on the pack's size, draw depth and stacking load, so it is set with your tooling.

What sets the gauge

  • Draw depth: deeper cavities thin the sheet as it stretches, so they start thicker.
  • Pack size and load: large trays and packs stacked high need more stiffness.
  • Closure: heat-seal rims and hinges have their own thickness needs.
  • Material: PETG and GAG PET form deeper shapes at a given gauge than plain APET.

PET sheet from AVI

AVI extrudes PET and rPET sheet in its own plants and controls thickness and intrinsic viscosity at source, then supplies sheet rolls to thermoformers in India and abroad, as well as forming its own punnets and trays.
