What is the difference between APET, PETG, GAG PET and rPET sheet?

Short answer

All four are PET (polyethylene terephthalate) sheet. APET is clear amorphous PET for punnets, trays and blisters; PETG is PET modified with glycol, tougher and better for deep or intricate shapes; GAG PET is a co-extruded sheet with PETG outer layers on an APET core, which forms and seals well; rPET is PET with recycled content, 30–100% in AVI's range.

AVI's PET sheet grades

Compared

Sheet Full form What it is Typical uses
APET Amorphous polyethylene terephthalate Clear, rigid PET Punnets, clamshells, trays, blisters, boxes
PETG Polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified Tougher PET copolymer Deep-draw and intricate shapes, medical and box packaging
GAG PET PETG / APET / PETG Three-layer co-extruded sheet Formed packs that need clarity and sealing
rPET Recycled PET PET with recycled content Food packs where recycled content matters

AVI also makes GRG PET, with rPET in the middle layer, for projects with recycled-content targets.

Which one to choose

Start from the pack: its draw depth, the closure (heat seal or hinge), food contact and any recycled-content target. AVI's team can match a grade and gauge to your tooling.

Related questions

What is the full form of APET?

Amorphous polyethylene terephthalate: PET in its clear, non-crystalline form.

What is the full form of PETG?

Polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified, a PET copolymer that is tougher and easier to form into deep shapes.

Is PETG the same as PET?

It is a type of PET. The added glycol makes it tougher and keeps it clear in thick or deep-drawn parts.
